About MELI
Goals of the organization:
-
To represent the community of Users of ExLibris products in Israel in negotiations with the Company especially in regard to the organization and prioritizing of the lists of Request for Development.
-
To co-ordinate between the Users of ExLibris products, to strengthen the bonds between them with Discussion Groups, an Internet site, and a database of internal solutions to problems.
-
To maintain contact with User Groups abroad.
Membership is open to every institution in Israel that has signed a contract for the purchase
of an ExLibris product. The annual membership fee is 600 NIS.
Membership in the organization gives the right to one vote in choosing officers of the Steering
Committee, changing the constitution and by-laws, and choosing development requests.
It also enables members to attend system seminars devoted to Aleph products, user-to-user
training sessions in different areas, annual membership meetings, and other programs initiated
by the Steering Committee.
Although Israel was the first site of an ALEPH installation, it has been one of the last to
establish an official users group. In the past, a small group of Israeli university users was
able to influence development of ALEPH in an unofficial way. With time, Ex Libris grew
into a larger company, and the Israeli user base diversified.
MELI was formed in 2005 in order to accommodate all Israeli user needs.
Members are all from the public sector: universities, colleges, teachers training seminaries,
and government authorities.
Many of MELI's members also belong to IGeLU (International Group of Ex Libris Users).
They enjoy good relations with members of IGeLU and ELUNA (Ex Libris Users of North America),
give presentations at IGeLU meetings and have served on the IGeLU steering committee.
MELI is also happy to represent Israeli users at the annual meeting of national users
group (ANUG), and help with any issues that arise in that forum.
